Solar Eclipse and a horse called Green Moon!

What a busy two weeks we’ve had with the Melbourne Cup won by the Aussie horse “Green Moon” and then the spectacular Solar Eclipse which just WOWED everybody in Far North Queensland! Also during the week we had the Cooktown races with everyone getting busy and dressed up for the local event.  Melbourne Cup day at the Den was celebrated with the traditional sweeps, bubbly and calcutta auction. Even the boys from TPI (vietnam vets) from Cairns came up again to spend Cup day at the Den for their second year in a row.

Check out the photos in the gallery of the Eclipse and Melbourne Cup Day!

JUNE LONG WEEKEND 2012

WHAT AN AMAZING WEEKEND!!!
Dave Steel & the Welcome Wagon, The Montgomery Brothers, Johno's Blues Band,
The Roadtrippers , The Hillbilly Goats and Lani Brouwer-Hughes made this
year Lions Den June Long Weekend one of the biggest and best ever! Clear
blue skies and stunning music saw a huge and happy crowd gather at the Den
for two days of camping and live music. Aussie music icon Dave Steel treated
the crowd to an exhilarating show on Saturday night along with his Welcome
Wagon compatriots Sandy Brady (on bass) and John "JP" Parry (on drums)
before treating the crowd to a personalised performance on Sunday afternoon.
Cairns legend Johno along with Ric Montgomery and Damien and Ryo Montgomery
joined up to revive the legendary Johno's Blues Band that wowed the crowd.
The Montgomery Brothers used their incredible music and percussion skills to
perform a vibrant display on floors, tables, cans and trees on Sunday arvo
before taking to the stage with Gav from the Roadtrippers for another great
jam session. The Roadtrippers and special guests from the Hillbilly Goats
teamed up to play a number of insane sets on Saturday night with screamer
winning the wild dancing competition! Special thanks also to the Hillbilly
Goats who again supplied ongoing entertainment through the whole weekend
with their exciting, toe tappin' tunes.

Big thank you to all the bands and especially Dave Steel, Sandy and JP for
making the trip all the way from Victoria just to perform at the Lions Den
Hotel - we appreciate it so much! THANKS EVERYONE!!! Cheers Max & Faith

ANZAC DAY

“Lest we forget”

It was impossible to forget anything on Anzac Day after a sensational performance by our favourite goats and a bunch of happy go-lucky revellers happy to enjoy the sunshine and the good cheer! The Hillbilly Goats along with up and coming singer songwriter Lani Brouwer-Hughes kept the crowd entertained from early arvo right through until dinner time. A bit of bush poetry from Marty and Jack and then a  guest appearance by publican/guitar bluesman Max and a stunner drums performance by usual front man Gav Dear, meant the day was an outstanding celebration of good music and good company. Well done everyone who played and sang and can’t wait till the big June Long weekend gig that is not far away! Just as a reminder Aussie legend Dave Steel is playing along with the famous Johno’s Blues Band, the Montgomery Brothers, the Roadtrippers and more……..

A beautiful Easter!

The sun shone and as promised the Easter bunny left sweet delights for the cheery travellers who made their way to the Lions Den for another gorgeous Easter weekend. We were definitely blessed with stunning weather and a smash hit performance by the Roadtrippers to a very loud and enthusiastic crowd. Sunday saw a record turnout for the kiddies Easter egg hunt and the local Rossville Fire Brigade put on a BBQ to keep the masses fed.

This weekend also saw the unveiling of the Lions Den Hotel’s new bands backdrop which has been lovingly painted by local artist Bob Baker. Featuring a stunning array of colours this amazing lion will take pride of place overlooking the Lions Den’s visitors on special nights from now on. Big thank you to Bob for undertaking such a huge project and we all agree it is magnificent. Cheers all and HAPPY EASTER!
